If you’re not you should be.
80% of purchases are made within a 15 mile radius of where users live. That’s why having a Google Places page is good for your business, it’s also a must for local SEO. You can optimize your Places page with pictures, video and exact categories applicable to your business. It’s also important to have a consistent listing in other local directories.
Depending on your organic search term and set location businesses with a Places page may appear at the top of regular organic search results. These search results will have the Google Places info in the search results – address, phone number and a link to the Places page with more info and a map. This can result in a distinct advantage for businesses with a Places page.
- 1. Go to google.com in the site bar
- 2. Search: enter “pontoon boat rental” in the search bar (results will be revealed)
- 3. Set your location: choose the city you are seeking services in (preferably the one you live in or the one you’re travelling to)
- 4. Results (see below): You will notice a map icon with the local address and phone number given along with the usual search results. Click on the icon to go to the business Places page. You can also click on the result to go to their website.
In order to ONLY have Places pages displayed in results, click on MORE beneath Shopping in the left bar and then choose PLACES. Results will only reveal websites with Places pages.
A user can also change locations in the left bar by clicking on the current location chosen, typing in a city or zip code and clicking on set. While Google seems to be making changes to “Places” quite frequently it’s a good idea to get on the band-wagon now. It’s yet another way of improving your SEO and getting your business found in search results.Call us today and let Revive Media get you set with a Google Places page for your business. On top of managing clients’ web design, video production and website optimization needs, Revive Media Services in Fort Walton Beach always finds one of our own to have some fun while supporting local businesses. This year one of us filled in for Santa Claus while the real Santa prepares his sleigh with toys for all you good little girls and boys.
Just last weekend Santa appeared at the Superior Residences’ annual Christmas Party in Niceville to pass out treats to all of the adults and kids alike who attended. Can you guess which one of us this is?

Earlier this month Lynn Dominique, Revive Media Services and Shelley Normand, Superior Residences had the honor of attending the International Conference on WWII “From Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal” in New Orleans, LA. They went in support of 4 of the 5 remaining USAF “Doolittle Raiders” who attended and spoke about their harrowing raid on Tokyo following the attack on Pearl Harbor in December, 1941.
Lynn and Shelley became close friends of Lt. Col. Cole, USAF, during a 2008 reunion event held at Eglin, AFB in Fort Walton Beach and have remained in close contact with the “Raiders” ever since, participating in events and book signings in the southeast whenever possible.
Revive Media Services’ web design team and video production group salute and support our local military personnel, past and present.

One of Revive Media’s clients, Southern Star, has a new venture – the Buccaneer Pirate Ship, slated to take its maiden voyage in the Spring of 2012. Revive Media was tasked with designing their new logo, which was received with much enthusiasm. Our web designers then sat down with Southern Star Dolphin Cruises owner Steve Wilson to discuss the new website. When it’s launched, users will be able to sign up for text messages to get directions, info on special promotions and more. You’ll also be able to make reservations for individuals and groups through a secure payment system that we’re collaborating on with the Southern Star team. We’ll be shooting video for the website for those who won’t be able to make the first cruise so you can see what the fun is all about.
Locals in Fort Walton Beach and Destin know what fun the Billy Bowlegs Festival offers once a year – how about a year-round Pirate experience on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Family fun is guaranteed. Weekend only (over 21) marauding mischief-makers excursions will also be offered for all you Blackbeards and Grace O’Malley’s at heart.
Keep an eye out for the launch of the website (coming soon). Meanwhile, check out some of the work we’ve done for other Destin, FL clients and if you want a website for a new venture you’re about to embark upon, give us a call. Keeping local businesses viable is what it’s all about. Soliciting the services and goods of local merchants helps to bolster economic viability, create jobs, generate income through taxes and can help encourage entrepreneurs to make a go of it.
Two of our local business owners who are passionate about keeping it local are Shelley Normand of Superior Residences in Niceville and Lynn Dominique of Revive Media Services. The two came together and formed The Focus Team – a mentoring program that exposes selected students from Choctawhatchee H.S. in Ft. Walton Beach to local leadership and local businesses. This opportunity allows the the students to see what their community has to offer and will hopefully encourage their future participation in local business initiatives.
This evening, November 29th, the Focus Team will be escorting the students to the retirement dinner for Dexter L. Mitchell, Command Chief Master Sergeant, 1st Special Operations Wing, at Hurlburt Field, FL. This will be an opportunity for the students to meet with local military personnel and higher ranking officers to get an idea about military opportunities and the local military personnel’s contribution to the Ft. Walton, Destin and surrounding areas. Many retirees stay in the area and start businesses that support our local economy.
The Focus Team meets with the students twice per month to speak about the local community opportunities and businesses, economic benefits of shopping locally and the economic stimulus and opportunities it provides for our future leaders in business. Throughout 2011, the students had the opportunity to participate in a team building event in San Destin, meet and speak with local veterinarian, Dr. Brian A. Murphy, DVM in Mary Esther, FL about Veterinary careers, and this coming month they will have the opportunity to meet face to face with Ft. Walton Beach Mayor Mike Anderson to discuss local government issues and how to start a political career.
It’s all about giving back to the community that you live in. Supporting local businesses in these challenging times does everyone good. If your local business is looking for a website to promote awareness or sell your products – or – you need a video produced for your website, a promo or a commercial, give us a call. We’re all about keeping it local.
